About US

We are SWARTWOOD Testing, Admissions, & Review. We prepare students for the MCAT, DAT, AP, GRE, OAT, PCAT, and University Exams!

We don’t just teach content. We teach you how to think. We are a results-driven test prep company specializing in MCAT, DAT, OAT, PCAT, GRE, AP exams, and university-level exam reviews. Our focus goes beyond memorization—we train students to break down complex questions, recognize patterns, and apply concepts strategically under pressure. Strategy-First Teaching High-stakes exams reward how you think, not how much you cram. That’s why our teaching is built around:
Proven test-taking strategies that work across exams Critical-thinking frameworks for tackling unfamiliar questions Concept mastery over rote memorization Efficient study systems that maximize score gains in less time We show students how to think and how to approach questions logically, eliminate traps, and make confident decisions—even when the material feels unfamiliar.
Our instructors are expert educators who know these exams inside and out. Every lesson is designed to mirror real test conditions and teach students how to:

Analyze questions quickly and accurately Adapt to new or challenging material Manage time, stress, and confidence on test day

More Than Prep. Real Skill-Building The skills we teach don’t disappear after test day. Our students leave with stronger analytical thinking, sharper problem-solving ability, and study strategies they can use throughout their academic and professional careers. Our Mission Our mission is simple:
To transform how students learn, think, and perform on their most important exams and have some FUN along the way. Because the best scores don’t come from memorizing more—they come from thinking better.
Head Instructor: John Swartwood
John has been our head instructor and the teaching staple for our company since its beginning. There's no way to do what he does in the classroom justice without having you see it yourself. In fact, feel free to set up a 30min sit-in to see for yourself. That's all it takes! Over 5,500 of his students (taught in-person) have gone on to have incredible careers in medicine, dentistry, and academic careers.
Here's a little about our company's background.
You might have heard of John as a TA at UCLA back in the day. He started to distinguish himself as a teacher when he was a PhD student at UCLA (mathematics). A special first year teaching award was even reinstated specifically to honor him since his supervising professor felt that the extraordinary talent and dedication he brought into the classroom should be recognized (student reviews and discussion section attendance of over 150% also helped). Although initially a Math TA, he was hired as a TA by the Psychology Department at UCLA as well and eventually the Communications Department. John was selected as the Math Department's VIGRE Pilot Instructor for Math 3C under Prof. Greene, where John was the instructor for the class.
While he was finishing his PhD advancement (Cphil, PhD ABD), his students (who he had been tutoring on the side) asked him to run a full MCAT course for them... The rest is history. John and his wife started running the company by holding lessons at a church. David Geffen Medical School hired him for their RAP/PREP program. Soon classes became bigger through word-of-mouth, and they pushed for a move to Westwood Village proper in their own office. The company found investors and has been Swartwood Testing, Admissions, & Review ever since.
