Congratulations on a job well done!!!
James Chen, SWARTWOOD PRE-MED, was accpeted to both Johns Hopkins Medical School (MD PhD) and Stanford (MD PhD).  Now, he's attending his first year of med school at Stanford!

Congratulations to Our Covergirls, Lauren Appell, Ramee Younes, and Kate Lee on a Job Well Done!!!

NEWS!  Thanks to all of our 138 students that have helped make June and July a success!

In response to student requests this SUMMER, we opened 2 NEW COURSES!!!

PHYSICS INTENSIVE Due to the success of our Verbal Intensive program, students have requested a Physics Intensive Course.

So, here's the info.  Workshops devoted entirely to PHYSICS and taught SOLELY by JOHN.  John's intuitive explanations and entertaining style are now in a PHYSICS only class.  We will do the usual MCAT only physics and OVERKILL the (rare) officially listed topics.

SWARTWOOD ONLY COURSE Since so many of our students have asked for a course taught EXCLUSIVELY by JOHN.  We've decided to offer it :).

In the SWARTWOOD Only Course, John will teach EVERYTHING (all subjects, all office hours, all workshops).  He's also requested that we cap the class at a smaller size since our SUMMER Courses have been so huge.

Please ask Stephanie at swartwoodprep@gmail.com for more info.

MCAT SUMMER'09

Come see the MCAT and MCAT Verbal class everyone is talking
about...John Swartwood (See STAFF SECTION) leads a team of
instructors dedicated to your success.

 It worked for
James Chen (39, now at Standford School-MD/PhD, accepted into Johns Hopkins MD/PhD program), Michael A. (38, now at Stanford Med), Samia Malik, Tasha Fernando
(+3 Verbal, now at UCLA Medical School), Lori Brandt (34, now in Albany Medical College), L. K. (36), Kate Lee (34), Linda T., Robbie Havard (now in a program in Chicago),
Michelle Lim (+4 Verbal), ... many more... , Cassidy Vuong,
Tony Hung (now in David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA School), Minh-tu Do (Chicago Medical School), Angel M., Stephanie Du, Leo, Stella C., Rakhshita, Vincent (+3 Verbal), Sarah Mohajeri (+3 PS), Brittany (+7), Ramee Younes (13 Bio, +4 overall), Brittany Yee (+3 Verbal), Tina Jung (93rd Percentile DAT), Eric Chen, Nancy Carballo, Madinah A., Mark S., Kate C., Lauren Appell, Albert Shamouleian, Hannah Shull, Nitin Bajaj (34), Brandon Chuang (36), Ziyad Khesbak, Neil Pugashetti (32), Melody Tran (35), Negeen (35) ... and You? (NOTE all +'s indicated improvements from previous official MCAT scores)

OUR STRATEGY

CRITICAL THINKING. Period.

Why do students prefer our course to the others? We teach you how to think about the MCAT. Instead of having you relearn everything, we focus on the critical thinking skills that the MCAT expects you to employ.

When John first developed and taught the course, most of his students came to him seeking help on the verbal portion of the exam. Sadly, many of his students believed that verbal was NOT something you could improve; either you have it or you don't. John proceeded to show them that nothing could be further from the truth.

He soon discovered that the students had been in courses taught people who had scored well on the verbal section, but who did not know how to teach verbal. Verbal is a technique, a skill. Learning when to look globally versus locally, how to look at different question types, when and how to focus on the gist, etc. all required learning a new way to look at MCAT verbal.

One of John's first Verbal Intensive students, Justin, had only gone from a 7 to an 8 in verbal after going through classes and material from the large corporate prep companies (K, P, BR). After two months in verbal intensive, he went from an 8 to a 12.

John extended this critical thinking approach to his entire class. It becomes an entirely different ball game when you view physical and biological sciences from a "thinking" perspective.

Students often complain, "I have bio down, but when I took the exam, they had some crazy stuff about specialized muscle groups that I've never even heard of. I'm micro, not physci. How am I supposed to get that?" The point is "YOU'RE NOT!" (At least, not the way you think...)

Critical thinking pulls some basic info from an otherwise unmanageable passage. Now couple that with some very basic science, and, voila, you have the right answer.

So many of our students made the mistake of going to the big corporate companies, only to find little or no improvement. These same students came to us and reached their MCAT goals. (e.g., Sarah Mohajeri left P struggling with the MCAT.  She came to us and reached her goals.  Brittany came from PR worried about her MCAT score.  After our course she went up 7 points.  Ashley left K unhappy and left us ready for the MCAT.  Tony H. took BR and dropped out once verbal wasn't working for him.  He took us for verbal intensive and is now at UCLA med.  Albert S. came to us from BR stressed out.  He finished our course invigorated (+8) and is now applying to med school.)

Another of our students, James Chen, who took only our class, recently scored a 39. Congrats, James!  James was accepted to both Johns Hopkins (MD, PhD) and Stanford (MD, PhD).  Now, James is headed off to Stanford (MD, PhD)!

CONGRATS, Ruthy Montes!!!!  She recently got her scores back... +5 on Verbal :).

DON'T TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT.  EVERYONE CLAIMS TO HAVE THE BEST INSTRUCTORS.
WE ACTUALLY DO!  SEE FOR YOURSELF.  CHECKOUT ONE OF THEIR CLASSES; THEN CHECKOUT OURS.  WE'RE CONFIDENT THERE'S NO COMPARISON!

But, everyone has her or his own MCAT goals and expectations. We strive to give you the best shot at fulfilling yours. GOOD LUCK!

MCAT The Complete Course

Our complete MCAT course covers Verbal, Physics, G-Chem, O-Chem, and Biology.  Students may sign up for the entire course or may take individual modules.  Each session runs roughly 3hrs.  The course is targeted for two to three months, but runs indefinitely (see our continuation policy) at no extra charge.

A single cycle usually has 110hrs+ of live classroom instruction.

MCAT Verbal Intensive

Due to our head instructor's famed ability to teach critical thinking skills in the context of the verbal section, we have developed our Verbal Intensive Course.  The course runs the same length as our complete course, but focuses entirely on the in's and out's of Verbal.  We take pride in showing that Verbal can definitely be taught and taught well.  We've had many, many students come to us from K, P, B, and EK's, unhappy with their verbal scores and have helped them out.  Even after going through two of these other courses before hearing about us, our students have experienced 4 point increases.  This course is like no other.  Come, and see.

THE MCAT MASTER COURSE

The Complete Course and Verbal Intensive what more need be said. These courses are coupled together to offer our most comprehensive package.
